Klondike
Setup
-
1
Deal 7 tableau columns: 1 card in column 1, 2 in column 2, and so on up to 7 in column 7.
-
2
Only the top card of each column is face-up; all others are face-down.
-
3
The remaining 24 cards form the stock pile, face-down, off to one side.
-
4
The four foundation spaces start empty — they fill as you play.
How to Play
-
1
Tableau moves: Build tableau columns in descending order, alternating red and black suits (e.g., black 6 on red 7). You may move single cards or entire face-up stacks at once.
-
2
Empty columns: Only a King (or a stack headed by a King) can fill an empty tableau column.
-
3
Foundations: Move Aces to the foundations as they appear. Build each foundation pile up by suit: A, 2, 3… up to K.
-
4
Drawing from stock: When no tableau moves are available, draw from the stock. In Draw 1, flip one card at a time. In Draw 3, flip three and only the top one is playable.
-
5
Waste pile: Drawn cards go to the waste pile; the top waste card is always available to play.
-
6
Recycling: When the stock is empty, flip the waste pile over to form a new stock (without shuffling).
Strategy Tips
-
1
Prioritize uncovering face-down tableau cards over moving cards to the foundations — more cards in play means more options.
-
2
Don't empty a column unless you have a King ready to fill it.
-
3
In Draw 3, mentally count cards in the stock to time when a key card will cycle to the top.
