Spider Solitaire
Setup (One-Suit / One-Deck Version)
-
1
Deal 10 tableau columns: 5 cards in the first 4 columns, 4 cards in the remaining 6 columns.
-
2
Only the top card of each column is face-up.
-
3
The remaining 50 cards form 5 deal piles of 10 cards each, set aside as the stock.
How to Play
-
1
Moving cards: Move cards or stacks in descending order onto any card of the next higher rank. Mixed-suit stacks can be moved one card at a time; same-suit stacks move together.
-
2
Completing a sequence: Build an unbroken same-suit sequence from King down to Ace. Completed sequences are automatically removed from the tableau and count as one of your 8 wins.
-
3
Empty columns: Any card or legal stack can fill an empty column. Empty columns are powerful — use them wisely as temporary holding spaces.
-
4
Dealing from stock: When no more useful moves exist, deal one card from the stock onto each of the 10 columns. All 10 columns must have at least one card before you can deal.
-
5
Winning: Remove all 8 sequences to win. If the tableau becomes unplayable and the stock is exhausted, the game is lost.
Strategy Tips
-
1
Prioritize same-suit builds over mixed-suit moves — only same-suit sequences score and can be moved as a unit.
-
2
Work toward emptying columns; empty columns are the most powerful resource in Spider.
-
3
Delay dealing from stock as long as possible — each deal adds complexity and can block progress.
